Using Penrose Behind A Firewall

Introduction

Penrose Server uses several ports to communicate with its clients (e.g. LDAP client and Penrose Studio). To use Penrose behind a firewall, you need to make sure that these ports are not blocked, or you might need to change it to different port numbers. These are the default ports, socket types, the associated services, and the client applications:

Port Type Description Client Application
1099 TCP RMI port Penrose Studio
40888 TCP RMI transport port Penrose Studio
8122 TCP HTTP port Web browser
10389 TCP LDAP port LDAP client
10636 TCP Secure LDAP port LDAP client

To change these ports, configure the appropriate parameters in Services. Also make sure that your client is using the correct port numbers. In Penrose Studio make sure that it points to the RMI port (default is 1099).
